While decorating is something that is meant to be exciting and fun, it can also be a little bit stressful if you don't know exactly what you want for the space. There are so many choices out there and if you just start buying furniture and large canvas art that you like then you might find that all of the pieces don't fit nicely together into a great room. If you need a little bit of direction with your home decor then one of the things that you should try is adding a theme to the space.

Themes can come in all shapes and sizes and one of the times when you will commonly see a big theme is in a kid's room. There are lots of parents who start out with giving the nursery a theme before their child is even born and keep this up through all of their kids' rooms. You might put up framed wildlife pictures to accent a safari theme or could have some things that relate to your child's favorite television show. There are lots of great themes out there for children's rooms and some of them are more subtle while others are very detailed.

A theme doesn't have to be as specific as being about one section of the world or one activity. You might choose a color scheme as a theme for your master bedroom or for the living room. You might have one breathtaking piece of art that you want to feature in your large master bathroom and build a color theme around this. You also might want to choose a fabric or a piece of furniture to create a theme around. Anything that inspires you within a room could help you to pull everything together.

There are many people who choose to have a theme for a specific room of their home and there are those that want to make their entire home into something that all fits together. You could create one different color scheme for each of the rooms of your home or have pieces and colors that keep showing up again and again. There are many ways that you can use paint, fabrics, furniture and printing pictures on canvas to bring themes together throughout your home.

You should do your best to keep different themes from clashing within your space. This is an even bigger danger if you're living in a smaller place, like a condo. Here, you might want to stick to one theme rather than choosing one per room.
